The Delhi High Court on Friday extended the interim bail of Ajay Chautala, the son of former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, who is one of the 55 people convicted in the junior basic teachers’ scam case of 2000, till November 7.

The Chautalas have been sentenced to 10 years in prison in connection with the scam that took place in Haryana.

Justice Siddharth Mridul extended the bail of Mr. Chautala and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) member Sher Singh Badshami on medical grounds. Mr. Badshami’s bail has been extended till November 14.

A Special CBI court had in January last year convicted and sentenced the Chautalas and eight others to 10 years’ imprisonment each for illegally recruiting 3,206 teachers.

All of them were held guilty of cheating, using fake documents as genuine and abusing their official position.

Mr. Om Prakash Chutala had surrendered at Tihar Jail here on October 11, after the High Court cancelled his interim bail for flouting bail conditions by campaigning during the recent Assembly elections in the State.
