AIIMS will now be able to better serve the humungous crowd of patients with a self-sufficient expanded trauma centre as the DDA in its Board meeting headed by the Lieutenant-Governor on Thursday approved its request and alloted 6.8 hectares of land adjacent to the existing trauma centre.
The L-G had earlier asked for a report on the number of trees to be affected if the request was allowed.
Following this, an inspection team comprising senior officers of the planning department visited the site and found that 656 trees cover the area of which 515 are kikar or Acacia trees.
“A survey of the area was done and it was found that more than 80 per cent of the plantation was only of keekar trees. The proposal was, therefore, approved by the Lt. Governor,” the land agency said.
As per the proposal, the expanded trauma centre will be self-sufficient in terms of solid waste management including hospital/ bio-medical waste and will provide plots for solid waste related facilities.
A comprehensive traffic and transportation scheme is also to be prepared for integration of existing and proposed development and to be submitted to UTTIPEC for approval.
AIIMS has proposed to connect Safdarjung Hospital, the new land for Safdarjung Hospital and AIIMS campus at Ansari Road so that the load does not come on Jhandu Singh Marg on its west.
