The All-India Institute of Medical Sciences and Meiji Pharmaceutical University, Japan, signed a memorandum of understanding this past week agreeing to cooperate with each other on collaborative programmes and activities offered at the respective institutions in mutually agreed areas of health sciences.
The areas of cooperation will include exchange of faculty member, training and exchange of students, cooperation in research activities, organising seminars and academic meetings on mutually agreed relevant topics and exchange and sharing scientific knowledge based on research and experience in both institutions.
The AIIMS Director, Prof. R.C. Deka, said: “There is a need for exploring the potential of developing drugs from herbal medicinal plants and marine sources found in India and Japan.''
He also emphasised the need for developing drugs for chronic age-related disorders such as neurodegenerative disorders, arthritis, Alzheimer's disease and other non-communicable diseases.
