As many as 172 cases of assault with a sharp weapon were received by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Trauma Centre during Holi.
As per a release issued by the institute on Tuesday, the Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Centre witnessed one of its busiest days on March 13.
Similar spikes in assault cases have been reported in past years too.

“For handling the enormous amount of patient load, preparations had started 15 days prior with continuous meetings and drills of the staff, with table top exercise for precision, swiftness and uninterrupted patient care,” said the release. The disaster ward was fitted with a blood bank and a lab.
On Monday, the emergency department of the trauma centre received nearly 400 patients. Out of this, 172 were assault cases, 103 cases involved accidental falls and 104 cases were traffic accidents.
Around 84% of the cases involved male patients in the age group of 21 to 30 years. Out of this, 80% were medico-legal cases. Around 40% of the patients reported critical injuries, with a majority of them being admitted to the neurosurgery department.
Most of the patients were from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
