After witnessing days of protests against the gang-rape of the 23-year-old paramedical student, some sense of normality returned to the Capital on Wednesday.
Sporadic protests continued at Jantar Mantar in muted forms, while some students also organised a peaceful candlelight march in Connaught Place which was stopped mid-way by the police.
The woes of the commuters ended with the police lifting traffic restrictions in the vicinity of India Gate and Raisina Hill.
Due to blockage around India Gate in the aftermath of the violent protests over the weekend, the city had witnessed severe traffic chaos especially at Pragati Maidan, Nizamuddin Bridge, Shantipath, Chanakyapuri, Mother Teresa Crescent Road, Mathura Road, Khan Market, Mandi House, ITO Bridge and Barakhamba Road, besides other major sections.
Police deployment
All the nine metro stations -- Pragati Maidan, Mandi House, Barakhamba Road, Rajiv Chowk, Khan Market, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, Udyog Bhawan and Race Course — which had been shut down to curb the flow of protesters, were opened on Tuesday itself and saw smooth operation on Wednesday also.
In spite of the easing of the traffic, policemen were seen deployed at important locations to deal with any untoward incident.
