The city has come alive with a host of events celebrating the arts this season. Adding to the vibrant atmosphere is Rang -- a festival of performing arts – that promises a host of theatre performances not only by established names but also amateur groups who have been selected through a nation-wide search.

The festival organised by The Films and Theatre Society (FTS) begins on November 1 and will continue till November 9 at the FIICI Auditorium, Sri Ram Centre and Hindi Bhawan.

The festival is in its fourth edition and will see a number of celebrities on stage. From Nitish Bhardwaj as Krishna in FTS’ “Chakrvyuh”, Nadira Babbar in “Sandhya Vhhay”, Rajit Kapur in “One on One” or Shernaz Patel in “Class of 84”, the festival will bring some of the finest theatre productions for its audience.

To promote emerging talent in theatre, the festival will organise a competition called Manchnaad on November 3 and 4 for which entries were invited from across the country.

Over 100 video entries were sent in out of which six were selected for the final round by the FTS jury. Teams from New Delhi, Varanasi, Chandigarh and Dehradun will be performing. The winner will be presented with a Tata Nano car.

The platform hopes to connect amateurs with professionals to ensure the growth of theatre industry as a whole.

Know the actor in you – a theatre workshop by Nadira Babbar -- will be conducted between November 4 and 8 at Sri Ram Centre. Nadira Babbar is the head of Mumbai-based Ekjute group and will be conducting workshops in Delhi for the first time.

Apart from theatre, on November 8 there will be a Sufi Night by Nizam Brothers at the Sri Ram Centre. There will also be a Kavi Sammelan at Hindi Bhawan on November 8.

Some of the plays being staged are: Rajit Kapur’s “One on One” and “Class of 84”, Nadira Zaheer Babbar’s “Ye Hai Bombay Meri Jaan” and “Footnotes of Life” and “Chakravyuh” (featuring Nitish Bharadwaj)
