Action against agencies that exploit domestic helps: DCW

March 25, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - New Delhi:

In a bid to stop exploitation of domestic helps, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Tuesday asked private placement agencies in the Capital to get themselves registered and warned them of action in case of non-compliance.

During a meeting with the representatives of Delhi-based placement agencies, DCW chairperson Barkha Shukla Singh cited the provisions of the Delhi Private Placement Agencies Regulation Act 2012, including mandatory labour department license, maintaining a proper register and minimum salary of Rs. 8,000 among others.

“If they do not cooperate and seek licence and involve themselves in exploitation of domestic workers, there is a provision of punishment for one to two years or even more with fine of Rs. 15,000 - 25,000 and licence cancellation,” a DCW statement said. —PTI
