Nitin Sharma, 28, one of the three accused, is a family man who lived with his wife in Gokul Puri’s A Block. He used to run an eatery with his brother in the area.
The family said they were shocked to learn about his arrest and involvement in the crime. Ramavtar Sharma, Nitin’s paternal uncle, who runs another eatery right next to Nitin and his brother’s ‘Sharma Dhaba’, said that he was informed by a media person early morning that Nitin had been arrested in a kidnapping case.
Alcohol addict
“We had absolutely no idea he could be involved in something like this. He used to earn a decent amount and there was no such need for money,” he said. Mr. Sharma, however, said that Nitin had become an alcohol addict over the last three years which became a reason for tension between him and his wife.
“It’s shameful if he has kidnapped a boy for money,” the uncle said.
Servants of the eatery said that Nitin used to help open the restaurant early morning and would leave for the day around 11 p.m. after his brother used to come. The brother lives with his family and mother in Yamuna Vihar while their father lives separately in Burari, the uncle said. “Both the sons did not share a good rapport with the father, so the latter left them four years ago,” he claimed.
When visited, Nitin’s house was locked and neighbours claimed that the wife has been gone for weeks. However, neighbours remember Nitin as a jovial person who would talk to everyone in the street.
