The Talwar couple, accused of the murder of their teenage daughter Aarushi, suffered a setback on Monday when the Supreme Court declined to entertain their plea for calling 14 witnesses to record their statements. Rajesh Talwar and his wife Nupur had challenged a special CBI court order rejecting their plea to call the Uttar Pradesh Additional Director-General of Police (Law and Order), the then CBI Joint Director Arun Kumar and 12 other witnesses.
A vacation Bench of Justices B.S. Chauhan and Dipak Misra asked the couple to approach the Allahabad High Court for relief.
Aarushi was found dead with her throat slit in her bedroom in the doctors’ house at Noida on May 16, 2008.
Their domestic help, Hemraj, was found dead in the balcony.
The Talwars were accused of the killings and the trial is pending before a special judge, who on May 6 this year dismissed their petition and ordered recording of statements of their statements. The statement of CBI investigating officer AGL Kaul, last prosecution witness, was already recorded.
The CBI alleged in court that the 14-year-old was murdered by her parents and no outsider was present at the scene. In his deposition before the special court, Mr. Kaul said the CBI investigation revealed no evidence of any third person having entered the house.
