If AAP stakes claim, Najeeb Jung may send fresh report to President
With the Aam Aadmi Party hinting at forming next government in Delhi, the office of Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung is likely to once again become the centre of political activities from Monday.
Experts say that if the AAP stakes claim, the Lt. Governor will send a status report to the President detailing the latest political development.
“After due deliberations, the Lt. Governor would send his report to the President. If the President is satisfied, he would send the warrant of appointment of next government to the Lt. Governor. The L-G would then administer the oath of office to the leader of the legislature party as Chief Minister. He would also ask the Chief Minister to prove his party’s majority within a fixed period,” said an official.
The new government would then have to convene an Assembly session to prove its majority. “The longevity of the session would be decided by the government. On the first day of session, the Lieutenant Governor would appoint one of the seniormost legislators as a pro-tem Speaker. The pro-tem Speaker would administer oath to new legislators and conduct election of new Speaker,” said an official.
“The Speaker would then take over and conduct the proceedings, including the floor test of the new government,” he added.
