An internal survey conducted by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has predicted a massive victory in the upcoming civic polls.
Senior leader Ashish Khetan said that the survey suggested that the party would win 218 of the 272 seats. According to the survey, the BJP, which has been controlling the civic bodies for the last 10 years, will get only 39 seats, while the Congress would win eight seats.
Independents and smaller parties will win seven seats, said the survey.
The party also claimed that it would get 51.2% of the votes, while the BJP and the Congress would bag 28.1% and 9.2% votes, respectively. Independents and other smaller parties could get around 11.5% of the total votes.
31,507 people surveyed
Mr. Khetan said the survey, which was carried out between April 7 and 17, had interviewed 31,507 people.
Recently, the party has suffered a major loss in the Rajouri Garden constituency where its candidate’s security deposit was forfeited. “Our work in bringing down electricity and water bills has been well-received. The satisfaction among people with the power bills being slashed was over 80%, while the move to make 20,000 litres of water free saw the percentage come to 72%,” he added.
“Around 62% of the respondents agreed that the Central government could take electricity and water away from the Delhi government and hand it over to the MCDs after elections,” said the AAP leader. The party also claimed that Delhiites were looking forward to house tax being waved if the AAP comes to power.
