The Aam Aadmi Party on Friday requested Delhi Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung to explore the possibility of government formation and invite the BJP to form the government in Delhi, if the party is “inclined”.

Letter by Bhushan

In a letter written to the L-G, AAP leader Prashant Bhushan has requested him to dissolve the Delhi Assembly and conduct fresh elections if there is no possibility of government formation.

“AAP humbly requests you firstly to invite leaders of the BJP to ascertain whether they are inclined to form the government in the NCT of Delhi and, if they express their unwillingness or inability to form the government, then you kindly reconsider your earlier recommendation to the President of placing the Assembly in a state of suspended animation,” said Mr. Bhushan in the letter to Mr. Jung.

The AAP leader requested the L-G to take an “appropriate decision” on the issue so that the “citizens of Delhi can have a democratically elected government at the earliest”.

The AAP had moved the Supreme Court seeking a direction to the L-G to dissolve the Assembly after the Arvind Kejriwal Government resigned following non-introduction of the Lokayukta Bill.

The Supreme Court in its order on Thursday had, however, stated that it was for the L-G to decide on the timing of the dissolution and it could not impose any opinion on him or the President of India on when they should take a call on the issue.
