AAP rebel MP to launch new political platform

August 23, 2016 12:04 am | Updated 12:04 am IST - NEW DELHI:

While the Aam Aadmi Party is revving up its campaign for the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections, Patiala MP Dharmavira Gandhi, who has been suspended by the AAP, is all set to launch a new political platform of ‘like-minded’ groups. The Swaraj Party, floated in May this year by rebels of the AAP, has extended support to Dr. Gandhi’s proposal as it feels there is a need to give the people of Punjab “political space for alternative politics.”

Sources said Hardip Singh Kingra, a retired bureaucrat considered a close aide of AAP’s State convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur, is all set to join the new political platform as well. Mr. Kingra had recently tendered his resignation from the AAP, a day before the first list of party candidates was issued.

“AAP has failed to fulfil the aspirations of the people of Punjab just like the Akalis and the Congress. We will create political space for alternative politics,” Manjit Singh, senior leader of Swaraj Party, told The Hindu .
