AAP questions lack of police action

Minister had complained against civic official

August 12, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 09:23 am IST - New Delhi:

After Delhi Social Welfare Minister Sandeep Kumar filed a police complaint against an Executive Engineer of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation on August 6, the Aam Aadmi Party has questioned “police inaction” in the case.

As per the compliant, Mr. Kumar has alleged that the corporation’s engineer hurled casteist abuses at him and passed derogatory remarks against Bhim Rao Ambedkar. The police haven’t arrested anyone till date.

“Instead of punishing the engineer, the BJP-led North corporation is shielding its engineer. It goes on to prove that the BJP is an anti-Dalit party,” said AAP’s Delhi convenor Dilip Pandey.

Questioning the police, the AAP leader said had it been the other way round, an AAP Minister hurling casteist abuses against a Dalit engineer, “he would’ve been arrested by now and the BJP would be on the streets protesting.”

“Modi's crocodile tears”

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently shed crocodile tears over the assault on Dalits. Even the official who used such words against Mr. Kumar knows that he will get away despite using such words,” Mr. Pandey added.

After the August 6 incident, the municipal corporations on Monday had passed a “non-cooperation” resolution, wherein the corporations’ staff and councillor will not work with the Delhi Government.

“The BJP should know that the people will give a befitting reply during the municipal polls,” Mr. Pandey said.
