The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday organised an ‘environment meet’, with its volunteers discussing environmental issues that plague the Capital and possible solutions.

AAP Delhi convenor Gopal Rai, who addressed the event, said the city was in dire need of a dedicated team to work on solving problems which, directly and indirectly, affect Delhi’s environmental health.

Team for each ward

“Not just India, but the entire world needs to seriously start working toward protecting the environment. If we hope for a better and healthier lifestyle, it is important that we start caring about this issue,” Mr. Rai said.

He also said that the meet was an initiative by the AAP to bring together people around the city who want to work towards protecting the environment. He announced that this dedicated team will be called ‘friends of environment’. The teams will be divided ward-wise and each ward in a constituency will have a dedicated team.

Addressing over 100 volunteers from different localities, Mr. Rai said these groups will organise monthly or fortnightly events in their respective neighbourhoods, which will be coordinated with all the areas, where plantation or sanitation drives can be undertaken.
