The Aam Aadmi Party on Friday issued a show-cause notice to its MLA Vinod Kumar Binny for making “baseless allegations” and “tarnishing the image of the party”.
The party has asked Mr. Binny to respond by 5 p.m. on Saturday.
The Lakshmi Nagar MLA had on Thursday accused Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the AAP Government of “cheating” the people of Delhi by going back on election promises. The party then decided to initiate disciplinary proceedings against him.
“The party has issued a show-cause notice to Mr. Binny for violating party rules under section 6-1-a of the party constitution. He has been asked to respond to the show-cause notice and give his reply to the party’s national secretary, Pankaj Gupta,” AAP volunteer and media coordinator Deepak Vajpayee said.
Mr. Binny, who was allegedly sulking after being left out of the Cabinet last month, had called Mr. Kejriwal a “liar”. He also described the Chief Minister as a “dictator” who did not tolerate dissent, alleging absence of internal democracy in the party’s functioning.
In an indication of deeper dissent in the party, Mr. Binny’s allegations received support from AAP MLA Surinder Singh. The point which Mr. Binny raised was “right”, but the way he did it was wrong, Mr. Singh said on Thursday.
Sources in the party said Mr. Binny may not be expelled, but disciplinary action against him is likely because the party does not want others to follow Mr. Binny’s example.
