Rebel Aam Aadmi Party MLA Vinod Kumar Binny on Thursday alleged that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal did not tolerate dissent and ran the party by having “closed door” meetings with a coterie of party leaders.
Mr. Binny found support from party MLA Surinder Singh, a former National Security Guard commando who battled terrorists in the 26/11 attack in 2008.
“The point Binny raised was right but the way he did it was wrong,” Mr. Singh said, indicating that the dissension in the AAP runs deep.
The party went into damage control mode soon after, refuting Mr. Binny’s allegations. The AAP decided to begin disciplinary action against Mr. Binny, a former Congress corporator, for making “baseless accusations” but ruled out his immediate suspension.
AAP leader Yogendra Yadav told reporters that “Binny spoke as if he was reading out notes of the BJP. Whatever he read was scripted by the BJP.”
PTI reports:
Under sharp attack from Mr. Kejriwal in the wake of the gang-rape of a Danish woman in the city, Delhi Police chief B.S. Bassi said the force was “competent enough” to ensure the safety of the people of the city.
Replying to a question from mediapersons about Mr. Kejriwal saying that the city was not in safe hands, Mr. Bassi said: “I would like to assure the people of the city that the Delhi Police are competent enough to ensure the safety and security of its citizens.”
