In order to address complaints regarding the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government’s pension schemes, officers of the Social Welfare Department have been deployed to visit MLAs’ offices twice a week to resolve problems.

Social Welfare Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam said on Saturday that the department had issued instructions for appointing nodal officers to visit each MLA’s office twice a week.

The circular had been issued and MLAs informed of the officer designated for their respective offices, said Mr. Gautam.

“From Monday, these officers will start visiting MLAs’ offices to take and address complaints of the beneficiaries or applicants of pension schemes. We find that senior citizens are made to run around from one office to the other if they have a complaint,” said Mr. Gautam.

Among the top complaints were pensions being stopped abruptly, incomplete payments and lack of progress on new applicants, he said.

The nodal officers would meet the complainants on the first visit of the week and resolve the issue and give an update during the second visit, he said.

The MLA office would also be given the details of the complaint, whether it has been resolved or not.

The AAP government provides monthly pensions to about 4 lakh senior citizens, as well as runs pension schemes for the differently-abled and widows.
