The Aam Aadmi Party on Sunday demanded that the Lieutenant-Governor of Delhi Najeeb Jung should convene an all-party meeting to discuss what it termed as “the alarming situation prevailing in the city due to long power cuts, rising prices of essential commodities and the administration’s failure in managing day-to-day affairs”.
‘The need of the hour’“Such a meeting is also the need of the hour since the Central Government is likely to present the Budget of Delhi in Parliament soon. With the L-G having kept the State Assembly in suspended animation for five months now, the opinion of parties represented in the Assembly must be taken into account by the Centre,” said a statement issued by the party.
Highlighting the problems of Delhi residents, who the party alleged were suffering from sleepless nights and price rise, the AAP said, “A situation of chaos must not be allowed to prevail in the National Capital any longer and urgent corrective steps are required to provide relief to the people.”
‘Discuss Budget proposals’The Arvind Kejriwal-led party asked Mr. Jung to discuss the Budget proposals for Delhi with political parties represented in the State Assembly “in order to make sure no major decision is imposed on the residents of the Capital without taking their elected representatives into confidence”.
The AAP also had a list of question for the Delhi administration on issues of water, supply of power in the city and price rise of essential commodities.
“Water supply is badly affected in different areas of the city. What is being done to normalise it? People of Delhi are suffering from power cuts for long hours. Who takes the responsibility for it?” questioned the party.
“The Lieutenant-Governor last month had asked the discoms to inform the people at 8 a.m. every morning about the timing and reason of power cuts. Has it so far been implemented ? If not, what action has been taken against the erring discoms?” the AAP asked.
