After their challenge to his nomination was rejected on Monday, the Congress said that the selection of Narain Dass Gupta by the Aam Aadmi Party for a Rajya Sabha seat showed that the AAP and the BJP were on the same side.

Office of profit

Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken had on January 6 filed an objection to Mr. Gupta’s nomination citing an office of profit allegation, which was dismissed on Monday.

In response, Mr. Maken said in a tweet: “N.D.Gupta going to Rajya Sabha was a foregone conclusion- But, we wanted to highlight that how AAP chose a BJP supporter and appointee to this plum 1.74 lakh crore trust, for Rajya Sabha? When both AAP/BJP,the State &Central Govt are supporting-who will reject the nomination?”

Mr. Maken was referring to the National Pension System Trust, of which Mr. Gupta was appointed a trustee in 2015 by the Centre.
