AAP alleges cop ran over Dilip Pandey

July 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Aam Aadmi Party spokesperson Dilip Pandey had a narrow escape when a policeman at Rajender Nagar police station allegedly tried to run him over with a police vehicle late on Tuesday night, AAP leaders said.

Mr. Pandey had gone to the police station at around 10 p.m. to look into the detention of some party workers in connection with a protest earlier in the day.

“He and some other leaders were speaking to a local news channel inside the police station when a policeman suddenly drove a police “bus in his direction at top speed. One of our volunteers noticed this and pushed Pandey away to safety,” Vikas Yogi, an AAP leader, told The Hindu .

Mr. Yogi, who on Twitter claims to be a spokesperson of AAP’s youth wing, said Mr. Pandey as well as the volunteer had a narrow escape. The post was retweeted by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. He went on to claim that the policeman stopped the vehicle some distance away and fled after abandoning it. Mr. Pandey and some leaders then approached a PCR van, but their personnel allegedly refused to register a complaint saying, ‘jo karna hai, kar lena’ (Do whatever you can).

Repeated attempts by The Hindu to reach Pandey failed. Mr. Yogi dismissed any claims that the vehicles brake had failed, “if the brakes had failed how the vehicle stop immediately (sic).”

Mr Pandey later tweeted saying, “Shockd to see sad state of #DelhiPolice. A PoliceBus tried to run ovr-kill me frm behnd whle i was talkng to media. Someone pushed-saved me!”
