A two-day heritage walk in the historic Nizamuddin Basti is being organised by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture here. The walks being held on Sunday and Monday are part of the project to revive the Humayun's Tomb, Nizamuddin Basti and Sundar Nursery areas. Aga Khan Trust for Culture has taken the initiative in public private partnership with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and the Central Public Works Department.
The walks -- or ‘Sair' as they are popularly referred to -- will take visitors on a journey to the little known parts of Nizamuddin, famous for the shrine of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya. Conducted by youth volunteers, these walks will centre around the 700-year-old historical monuments, the culture and traditions and the local trade of the area.
Apart from the walks that are part of the ‘Celebrating Apni Basti', a series of other events have also been lined up. Visitors can also look forward to a ‘Mela' complete with food stalls serving the Nizamuddin Basti's famed cuisine, shops selling local crafts, attar perfumes, embroidery and traditional herbs. Workshops on calligraphy, candle making and theatre will also be part of the celebrations.
The ‘Sair' will start from Shiv Mandir in Nizamuddin Basti at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. For enquiries the phone numbers are: 9899943720 / 9717722592
