October 11, 2014 07:43 am | Updated May 23, 2016 06:42 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Some hate it, others love it, but you cant ignore it when every nightclub in the city is playing Electronic Dance Music (EDM).

The largest music festivals in the world are playing EDM and some of the best DJs in the world have put India on their tour map.

The frenzy that started during the Sunburn festival in Goa in 2007 has spread to cities, towns and college campuses.

International and local talent This weekend, youngsters in the city will have two music festivals to attend, with Sunburn Noida on Sunday and Area 79 on Saturday planning a line-up that features the best international and local talent.

Sunburn CEO Karan Singh says EDM is what is getting people dancing whether it is a house party, club or festival.

“Sunburn Noida is being organised next to the grand stand and will be the first festival to take place on the racetrack at the Buddh International Circuit,” said Mr. Singh.

3D Cubezoid stage

He said the organisers are bringing a 3D Cubezoid stage to the event, something that has never been seen outside Goa and will provide a unique multi-sensory experience. The artistes performing include W&W, Krewella and Cazzette, who will be performing with Indian talent like Shaan, Zaeden, and Dualist Inquiry.

“We want to provide the Sunburn experience not as an alternative, but as a build up to the Goa event. Every large festival has precursor events and we are trying to do just that,” Mr. Singh added.

Area 79 will be held at The Blue Frog, The Kila, in Mehrauli, and will have 40 artistes playing on four stages and will be a 12-hour musical extravaganza. Visitors will be able to choose between live stage, trip stage, techno stage and dub stage. The objective is to give listeners an alternate listening experience.

Harpreet Rana, who is a part of the team that is organising the festival, said: “We are hoping to provide an experience that is an alternate lifestyle. It is a stage to promote fresh new talent and youngsters who are very good but play at non-commercial venues.”

The festival will also have a flea market and food to complete the experience.

Music enthusiast and part-time DJ Ashish said he is looking forward to the music festivals as they offer a completely chilled out experience.

“At night clubs, it’s all about getting drunk and dancing. At events like this, spread across the day, you can really enjoy the music and experience the journey the artiste is trying to take you through during a set.”
