Association for Learning Performing Arts and Normative Action (Alpana) is organising a two-day cultural programme by specially gifted persons in the Capital beginning this Saturday.

Over the past five years, Alpana has organised a large number of programmes by physically and mentally challenged persons at different venues in the Capital and this year it has planned “Sambhav-2009” on a larger scale inviting participants from ten countries. The programme will be held at three venues -- India International Centre, FICCI Auditorium and India Habitat Centre.

There will be an international seminar on “Our world, their world: Shared experiences on physically and mentally challenged persons and performing arts’’ on both the days. Resource persons on different sub-themes are expected to present their papers at the seminar.

In the evenings there will be performances by about 120 physically and mentally challenged artistes from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Nepal and Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Mauritius and Thailand besides India. Participants from abroad will also have an interactive session with special children of a school in the city.

Odissi danseuse Alpana Nayak, who is the moving spirit behind Sambhav, says: “People with disability return the love you give them. Trust is the healing medicine which keeps them connected to us.”
