UP needs a licence to party

December 31, 2016 01:02 am | Updated 01:02 am IST - NOIDA/GREATER NOIDA:

Offering liquor at a New Year bash without permission from the Excise Department or carrying liquor beyond the prescribed limit may spoil your fun, with the UP government forming teams to check violations of excise rules.

Gautambudh Nagar Excise Officer Kuldeep Yadav said the teams will check all arterial borders of Noida and Greater Noida. “We have formed six teams to crack down on such parties,” he said, adding that the teams usually nab people who buy liquor from shops located at New Ashok Nagar and Vasundhara Enclave. The Excise Intelligence Bureau will keep an eye on parties where booze is being served, including hotels, restaurants and banquet halls. A person hosting a party where liquor will be served also needs a permit from the Department. Failure to do so can attract a fine of up to Rs.1 lakh and/or six months in jail.
