: Two days before he attempted to kill her, Amit had visited the victim’s residence and when asked to leave, had issued a veiled threat about harming her, claimed her elder sister.
“When he went to meet her, she was recuperating from typhoid. Our nephew and niece were there with her. When I came back home and saw him, I immediately asked him to leave. He agreed, but said he couldn’t guarantee ‘that something won’t happen to her’,” said the sister.
Accused determined
She further said that even as he was pursuing the victim to marry him, he got married to another woman. He, however, remained persistent in his efforts to woo the victim, who would spurn his advances. Amit had also allegedly declared that he would marry the victim by February, the sister said.
Family members, meanwhile, said Amit had been following her for the past four months and she had only confided in her mother about it, which is why they never went to the police or even told Rohit about it.
The victim stays with her brother and three sisters. Her father works as a security guard in Uttam Nagar, while her mother is a house maid in Vasant Kunj.
Amit, the son of a Delhi Police Assistant Sub-Inspector, had been out of work for the past three months.
Twists in tale
His father has been bed-ridden since meeting an accident a few months back. The police said he helped his son in getting him arrested. Basant, his co accused in the crime, had been called from their village to take care of his uncle but ended up being an accomplice in the crime, the police added.
