A 20-year-old engineering student from Telangana committed suicide inside his hostel room in BML Munjal University here on Wednesday. The police have ruled out foul play.
Missing from class
Ranga Manideep, a first-year student of mechanical engineering, was found hanging from the ceiling fan inside his room when his friends broke open the door on Wednesday evening. Investigation Officer, Assistant Sub-Inspector Hawa Singh, told The Hindu that Ranga's friends grew suspicious when he did not attend classes on Wednesday morning and found his room closed all through the day. “When he did not respond to repeated knocks at the door in the evening, his friends forced the door open. They found him hanging and informed the police,” said Mr. Singh.
The police contacted the family of the deceased and did not bring down the body till they reached the university early on Thursday. “The body was sent for autopsy after his father and relatives arrived,” said Mr. Singh.
No foul play
Ranga had come to stay in the hostel in October last year after he joined the course at the univeristy. Ruling out foul play, Mr. Singh said that the preliminary investigation suggested that the deceased had not been doing well at studies and was depressed.
