Rai presents report card of his four departments

February 11, 2017 12:40 am | Updated 12:40 am IST - New Delhi:

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Minister Gopal Rai on Friday presented a report card of the accomplishments of the four departments that have been under his wing for two years now. Mr. Rai said that around 90% of the targets set has been achieved.

Two years in power

The AAP is about to complete two years in power and on the occasion of the second anniversary on Tuesday, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, along with his other Ministerial colleagues, will present a comprehensive report card about the government’s achievements since February 2015.

Mr. Rai holds the portfolios of labour, irrigation and flood, development, and general administration.

After listing out the achievements, Mr. Rai expressed displeasure over the Centre’s “delay” in giving its nod to various proposed legislations, including Minimum Wages Bill and Working Journalists Bill.

Helpline for labourers

“The Labour Department has issued a helpline 155214, which has been extremely helpful for labourers. Due to setting up of fast track courts, the government has been able to provide time-bound rulings to labourers,” Mr. Rai said.

“It is unfortunate that the Centre has not cleared several bills. The Minimum Wages Bill, which is expected to be cleared by the end of this month, will ensure that labourers get proper wages for their work,” the Minister added.

Of the 18 schemes for the welfare of construction workers, seven have been implemented by the Labour Department. To curb graft, the government has also introduced online registration of industries, Mr. Rai said.

Online records

The Minister also said that the General Administration Department has decided to make online all records of freedom fighters and martyrs by setting up a dedicate website.

“Apart from this, we also have plans to convert all wholesale mandis (markets) into e-mandis in order to cater to traders and curb corruption,” Mr. Rai said.

The Minister said that for the first time in the upcoming budget, the government will provide special provision to construct chhath ghats in the city.

“Delhi government’s Rural Development Board is working on various projects worth ₹326 crore for development works in Delhi’s villages. Delhi is the first in the country to give compensation of ₹90.4 crore to farmers who suffered crop loss,” the Minister added.
