A 30-year-old man died after he allegedly smashed a beer bottle on his head at a New Year celebration in south Delhi’s Hauz Khas Village on Saturday. Victim Deepak Tondon worked as bouncer in Ludhiana and had come to the Capital to celebrate the day with three friends.

New Year party

“Deepak and his friends had gone to Elf Cafe and Bar in Hauz Khas Village to party on New Year’s Eve. When the police team got there, Deepak had sustained an injury on the forehead. The café staff told us that he had hit himself with a beer bottle while dancing. He was taken to Safdarjung Hospital, where he succumbed to injuries,” said a senior police officer.

No CCTV footage

The officer added that while no CCTV footage was recovered from the café, someone from the crowd that had gathered after the incident had made a video and circulated it.

In the video, Deepak is seen bleeding profusely. A policeman is seen attempting to seat him inside a PCR van, but is met with resistance.

Deepak’s family told the police that he occasionally worked as a bouncer at marriages in Ludhiana.
