The Delhi Police has blamed websites for encouraging “obscene activities” after a video showing a youth kissing “random” girls at Connaught Place surfaced recently.
Police said they would investigate the roles of search engines and video-sharing sites, and an event management company, to assess their criminal liability in the making of the video that was first shared from a YouTube Channel by the name ‘Crazy Sumit’.
Sumit Kumar Singh, 20, and his friend, Satyajeet Kadian, 25, the two men allegedly involved in the making of the video, were apprehended by a crime branch team from their Gurugram home on Friday.
However, despite having the duo in their custody, the police stopped short of arresting them after claims that the women who were kissed in the video were actually their friends and had willingly agreed to be a part of the video.

Ravindra Yadav, Joint CP (Crime), said his team would get in touch with the girls featuring in the video to verify the authenticity of the claim.
If it turns out as claimed by the duo, the police may not be able to press charges of molestation, and may only think of booking them under Section 67 of the IT Act, which pertains to transmitting obscene material in an electronic form.
Earlier, a case under the IT Act as well as for molestation was registered by the Cyber Crime Cell soon after the video had gone viral. The officer said that a raid at the house of the accused led to the recovery of two laptops, a video camera used for recording the clip, wireless mikes, and a trophy awarded by YouTube to Sumit for garnering one lakh subscribers.
