The Extended Executive Council of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachers' Association (JNUTA), in a meeting on Monday, decided to ask colleagues to join a mass protest at the convention centre on Tuesday. The protest is aimed at sending a clear message to the university authorities “who are displaying undemocratic conduct and are out in the open to bring in arbitrariness”.
The protest will be held outside the Executive Council meeting venue.
JNUTA said that the “recommendations” of the Academic Council (AC), despite not being democratically passed, were being presented at the EC meeting.

The JNUTA appealed to its EC members not to endorse the proclaimed “Academic Council decisions”. They said that the decisions have not been arrived at through proper process and to defend due process, JNUTA has requested all members to send the matters back to the Academic Council for a proper discussion.
The Extended EC reaffirmed its commitment to defend the right to peaceful and democratic modes of protest for all sections of the university and protested the administration’s attempts to curb such rights and its use of “intimidatory tactics” against both teachers and students.
JNUSU appeal
Meanwhile, the JNU Students' Union appealed to everyone who stood up against “Shut Down JNU” conspiracies in February, 2016 to join hands again, this time to save the university from destruction by its own administration. They said that it is now clear that the present V-C has an “agenda to destroy everything that generations of students, teachers and the JNU community built through historic struggles”. “
