Gurgaon to get earthquake warning system

: An earthquake warning system will be installed at the Haryana Institute of Public Administration (HIPA) here next month. It will be the first such system to be set up in the National Capital Region.

The system can immediately raise an alarm, shut off gas, water and power connections of the nearest floors, and open emergency gates when it senses primary waves of a severe earthquake.

“However, the alarm will alert only those on the premises because of the high cost of public alarms,” said Abhay Shrivastava, Head of Disaster Management, HIPA.
