In a step spelling major relief to lakhs of employees and thousands of factory owners operating out of north-west Delhi, the Delhi government on Monday postponed the sealing of units that don’t have valid No Objection Certificates (NOCs) by three months.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Trade Wing convenor Brijesh Goyal said a meeting over the issue was held at Industries Minister Satyendar Jain’s residence on Monday where the Minister took the decision to provide a three-month window to the factory units to obtain the requisite fire safety clearances.
Relief for factories
Mr. Goyal pointed out that the move spelt relief for an estimated 16,000 factories in Bawana, 3,500 units in Narela Industrial areas, and the five lakh workers employed by them. “We were approached by many factory owners from these areas about the local administration’s decision to seal the factory units without fire clearances beginning Monday, following which it was decided to apprise the Minister about the move and its implications on livelihoods,” said Mr. Goyal, adding that over a 100 factory representatives attended the meeting with Mr. Jain.
