What started off in a school building in Karampura in 1990 has today grown into an institution that has 2,500 students on its rolls with 700 students getting a degree every year. After over two decades of functioning in a place that did not have the expected standards of a college, the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College finally moved into a new state-of-the-art campus building in Dwarka.
The eight-acre campus was inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia on the first day of the new academic year of Delhi University.
Planned with a focus on national and international collaborations, the campus building has the features of a green building with water harvesting, water recycling, solid-waste management and solar electricity facilities of 400 kw on roof top.
It has a separate office for each faculty member, residential facility for about 10 per cent of students (separate for boys and girls), an auditorium, amphitheatre, indoor sports facilities, gymnasium, laboratories and lecture halls, library, and a computer centre. Majority of the campus is also centrally air conditioned.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Sisodia emphasized the need for quality education and urged the teaching faculty to inculcate human values among the students. He assured the complete support of the education department for any resources that will lead to the holistic development of the students.
The Minister also requested the Delhi Vice Chancellor to work out a plan to accommodate over 1.25 lakh Class 12 students who are otherwise unable to find admission for higher education.
