: Two cousins, both 19 years old, were found murdered in Rohini’s Japanese Park on Tuesday, when the park was crowded with couples celebrating Valentine’s Day.
The sequence of events that led to the murders of Ankush and Anshu and how it escaped the notice of policemen and guards and other visitors at the park is not clear yet. The murders came to light when a visitor spotted the bodies and raised an alarm. The youths were rushed to the nearby Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital where they were declared brought dead.
Neighbour calls them out
The police remained tight-lipped about the progress of the probe or even the motive. The victims’ family members said a neighbour Bobby, a friend of the deceased duo, had called them to hang out with him a few hours before the bodies were found. Bobby is currently in police custody and is being questioned.
A police officer said the incident was reported around 8:30 p.m, when a caller, who had spotted the bodies, made a PCR call. The police reached the spot and found the two cousins in a pool of blood within a few metres of each other. The duo had been stabbed on their neck and chest.
Six hours before this, around 2 p.m., was when Bobby visited the Karala residence of Ankush where Ashu was also present. “He asked them to accompany him to Begampur and they agreed. Since then we did not hear from either of them. We tried calling both but their phones were found to be swtiched off,” said Sahil, who is Ankush’s brother.
‘Crime of passion’
But after many attempts, one succeded. “After the bodies were found, the police switched on both the phones. We were hoping to hear the voices of our brothers on the other end but instead we were told that they had met with an accident. When we reached the hospital we learnt it wasn't an accident but a murder,” said Sahil.
A woman's sandal was also found next to one of the bodies prompting the police to suspect a female presence at the spot.
However, the family has alleged that the murder may be a crime of passion and have alleged that there is a love angle to the case.
