CAG completes 150 years, new logo released

November 11, 2010 08:34 pm | Updated 08:34 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India Vinod Rai released the new logo of the Indian Audit and Accounts Department at a function here.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rai said the CAG office had completed 150 years of existence. Sir Edmund Drummond was appointed the first Auditor General on November 16, 1860, and V. Narahari Rao was appointed the first Comptroller and Auditor General of Independent India in 1948.

He praised the Audit and Accounts Department for its credibility, high standard of professionalism and independence. He said the department was always improving its core competency by continually updating its techniques for improving governance.

Mr. Rai noted that Dr. B. R. Ambedkar had described the CAG “as the most important officer” in the Constitution of India. “And this duty entrusted to the CAG by the Constitution is still being carried out with the same dedication and sincerity, if not more, since the past 150 years,” he added.

Deputy CAG Narendra Singh said the logo was selected through an all-India design contest conducted by the CAG office. “Of the 142 entries received, the design proposed by Shivam Dua, a young B. Tech student from Rohtak, Haryana, was selected as it best conveyed the core values of the department – its traditional values and its dynamic and progressive outlook,” Mr. Singh said.
