AIIMS director names to be shortlisted this week

January 05, 2017 01:06 am | Updated 01:06 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The newly constituted search-cum-selection committee will shortlist names out of the 53 candidates, including 35 from outside the institute, who have applied for the post of director at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here this week.

The panel comprises R. Chidambaram, the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Prime Minister; Soumya Swaminathan, the secretary in Department of Health Research; Jagdish Prasad, the director-general of Health Services; and Yogesh Tyagi, the Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University.

This newly constituted committee is scheduled to hold the meeting under the chairmanship of Health Secretary C.K. Mishra on January 6 at 11 a.m. at Nirman Bhawan. The meeting of the panel has been approved by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).

Cabinet approval

“Members of the new search-cum-selection committee will short-list a few names, which will then have to be approved by the institute body, before being sent to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by the Prime Minister for final approval,” said a senior official at AIIMS.

The PMO had last week ordered reconstitution of the search panel based on DoPT guidelines amid allegations of nepotism. A search-cum-selection panel under the chairmanship of Health Minister J. P. Nadda was earlier constituted to select the new director of AIIMS.
