AAP govt delaying release of details of new notified wards, says BJP

January 17, 2017 01:30 am | Updated 01:30 am IST - New Delhi:

A day after announcing a major rejig in the Delhi BJP, keeping in mind the coming civic polls, newly appointed unit chief Manoj Tiwari accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of not releasing details of the new notified wards with the “apparent intent” to delay the elections.

While calling on Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal to take note of the matter, Mr. Tiwari demanded that the Arvind Kejriwal-led government make public the final draft on delimitation of municipal wards.

“The Kejriwal government is delaying putting in public domain the details of structure of the new notified wards. Keeping in view the short time left for municipal elections they should have notified the details for public as well as political parties immediately after the L-G’s approval,” Mr. Tiwari said.

Notification soon

The AAP government is likely to notify the new municipal ward boundaries soon. The notification on delimitation will be issued by the Urban Development Department for all the 272 municipal wards that will go to polls later this year.

On Sunday, the party had announced a team comprising 35 office-bearers, including former AAP leader Shazia Ilmi.

New team

The new team comprises eight vice-presidents, three general secretaries, six spokespersons, nine secretaries, and six morcha presidents. Ms. Ilmi, Abhay Verma, Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Mohan Singh Bisht, Jai Prakash, Rajeev Babbar, Sardar Kulwant Singh Bhaat were appointed V-Ps. Kuljeet Singh Chahal, Ravinder Gupta and Rakesh Bhatia were appointed general secretaries while Harish Khurana, Aman Sinha, Ashwani Upadhyay, Nupur Sharma, Naveen Kumar and Ashok Goyal will now be spokespersons.
