: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) attacked Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung on Tuesday for not clearing the Delhi government’s proposal of regularising 17,000 guest teachers in government schools.

At a press conference, AAP leaders called Mr. Jung a “puppet” of the Centre. They said the decision to not regularise the teachers had been taken “at the behest of BJP”. “The L-G is the Centre’s representative, and does not take any decision without its consultation. He has been sitting on the file since January. When we asked him about the delay, he said he was seeking the opinion of the Solicitor General on the issue,” said AAP leader Ashutosh.

Demanding that Mr. Jung clear the proposal “without any changes”, the party also accused BJP of trying to implement an “anti-people Gujarat model”.

“He has no right to delay as there is a Supreme Court order in the matter,” Ashutosh said.

However, sources in the Delhi government said the file had been sent to the Additional Solicitor General for legal advice after consultation with Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. On April 28, the file was sent to the L-G office.

As per the proposal, guest teachers will be given priority while applying for permanent jobs.
