Delhi University's admission process for under-graduate courses for the upcoming new academic session will begin on May 28.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Vice-Chancellor Deepak Pental said students will be vying for 54,000 seats excluding professional courses. This is an increase of 5,000 seats from the 2009-10 academic session, he added. In addition, there are over 5,000 seats available in professional courses.
DU aspirants can submit their application from May 28 at 16 admission-cum-information centres that have been set up in various parts of the Capital for sale and receipt of the Common Pre-Admission Forms and Information Bulletin. Forms can be purchased and submitted between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Centres where the forms and information bulletin will be available in North Delhi are the office of the Dean of Students' Welfare, Kirori Mal College, Faculty of Arts and Swami Shraddhanand College.
South Delhi centres include office of the Deputy Dean of Students' Welfare, Deshbandhu College, Atma Ram Sanatan Dharam College, Gargi College, P.G.D.A.V. College and College of Vocational Studies, whereas Zakir Husain College has been designated as the Central Delhi centre.
Shyam Lal College, Vivekananda College and Maharaja Agrasen College are centres for East Delhi, while Rajdhani College and Syama Prasad Mookerjee College have been demarcated as West Delhi centres.
The forms and bulletin would be available till June 11 which is also the last date for submission of completed application forms. Each candidate will have to fill up one form through which he or she would be able to indicate preferences of course and college.
Students can also obtain prospectuses and applications forms directly from the college they wish to apply to. With the exceptions of St. Stephen's College and Jesus and Mary College, all colleges would be accepting the Common Pre-Admission forms.
The first admission list would be announced on June 22 by the colleges, while the second and third lists would be announced on June 26 and July 1 respectively. In case of a fourth list, colleges would announce it on July 6. The last date of general admissions is August 6.
According to Prof. Pental, almost all students with Ist division were admitted to colleges as per the cut-off percentages for 2009-10, while students with IInd division too managed to get admission in some courses.
Students who choose not to pursue full-time courses in colleges can enrol themselves in the “non-formal education stream” through the School of Open Learning or the Non-Collegiate Women's Education Board, applications forms for which would be available from June 1 to October 29 and June 7 to 18 respectively.
A new feature of the upcoming academic session would be the introduction of semester system at the undergraduate level. However , it would be implemented for only some courses.
