Five persons were injured when an ambulance ferrying a body was hit by a private bus at Delhi Gate red light on Wednesday, the police said on Thursday.
Two critical
Two of the victims suffered head injuries and are said to be in a critical condition, they added. The police said the accident was reported at 10 a.m. on Wednesday.
Complainant Yakub, a resident of Noida, told the police that his 65-year-old mother died at 4 a.m. on Wednesday after undergoing treatment at Lok Nayak Hospital here for 20 days. The family, including two women, were taking the body to their home in Noida’s Bhangel village for last rites when the private bus hit the ambulance, which turned turtle. The bus driver left the vehicle and fled the spot.
Staff of a PCR van stationed nearby and passersby rescued the injured persons from the ambulance and admitted them to Lok Nayak Hospital. “My brother Yaseen, his wife Maiser, Liyakat and my wife were in the ambulance when it met with an accident. Both the women have been admitted to the hospital and are undergoing treatment for head injuries,” said Mr. Yakub, who has a footwear business.
Stating that the private bus was impounded on the spot, a senior officer said, “A case under Sections 337 [causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others] and 279 [rash driving or riding on a public way] of the IPC has been registered at Daryaganj police station. We have traced the bus owner and driver on the basis of the registration number. The driver will be arrested soon.”
A 45-year-old patient being taken to a hospital in an ambulance was killed in July last when a speeding car allegedly rammed the van at Delhi Gate red light.
