More than 46,000 low-cost houses are slated to come up for Delhi’s urban poor. Of these, 40,000 will be built on vacant land in Savda Ghevra and Bhalswa Jahangirpuri.
The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) took the decision on Saturday at its Board meeting and also approved four more projects for construction of 6,200 flats at various places.
The Board also decided to allot around 14,000 existing low-costs flats by September this year.
Out of this, allotment of around 4,000 flats would be done at the earliest for which identification of eligible applicants is in full swing .
The Delhi Government had completed construction of these 14,000 houses meant for the economically weaker section five years ago.
The DUSIB has chalked out a schedule to organise camps for different JJ clusters to determine eligibility of the beneficiaries.
Ms. Dikshit, who chaired the meeting of the Board, said it has been clearing 200 cases every day and that the schedule for May and June has been prepared.
She said this will involve around 30 clusters wherein more than 3,900 cases are to be cleared for the allotment on in-situ basis.

In order to make the camp successful, the residents in clusters are being informed and educated well-in advance so that they can come prepared with necessary documents.
About the 6,200 EWS flats that are slated to come up under the Rajiv Awas Yojana and in-situ re-development scheme of JJ clusters, Ms. Dikshit said 2,880 flats will be developed at Sultanpuri over six hectares where 15 JJ clusters will be rehabilitated. This will make the entire Sultanpuri Assembly constituency slum-free.
It has also been decided to construct 1,472 dwelling units under Rajiv Awas Yojana at Kalyanpuri at an estimated cost of Rs.173 crore. The Board also gave sanction to a proposal for re-development of a JJ cluster on its land for providing in-situ housing at Hari Nagar Ashram wherein 600 dwelling units would be developed.
A scheme for construction of 1,220 dwelling units for lower income groups at Sector-23 Rohini also got the nod of the Board.
The Board has also approved a scheme for construction of a working women’s hostel at Jhilmil Colony, East Delhi at an estimated cost of Rs.3.74 crore to accommodate 48 working women on twin sharing basis in 24 rooms. The fund would be provided by the Trans-Yamuna Area Development Board whereas the construction on deposit work basis would be executed by the DUSIB.
A scheme to construct a commercial-cum-residential complex at Phool Mandi near Town Hall was also discussed.
The complex will come over a plot of around 3 acre which is under the possession of the Board. The Board gave its in-principle approval to this plan.
