Traffic movement on certain roads in the Capital will be affected and four metro stations, three of them on the Jehangirpuri-HUDA City Centre line, will remain closed for commuters on Monday in view of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang’s visit to India.
According to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) spokesperson, four metro stations – Race Course, Central Secretariat, Udyog Bhawan and Khan Market – will remain closed from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Monday as per advisory from the Delhi Police. To avoid inconvenience to commuters due to lack of information, announcements were made at the metro stations from the public address system on Sunday. The DMRC also closed Race Course metro station from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday evening anticipating Tibetan protests during the visit of Mr. Keqiang, who reached the Capital earlier during the day.
Besides, the Delhi Police closed both carriageways of Sardar Patel Marg from Panchsheel Marg to Dhaula Kuan on Sunday afternoon till Tuesday afternoon. The Delhi Police have advised motorists to use alternate route as no traffic will be allowed on the stretch during this time. However, Vandematram Marg will be available for all types of vehicles, including buses.
Also, traffic movement on India Gate C-Hexagon will be affected from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday and the traffic police have advised people to avoid it and Mathura Road. Those travelling from East to South via Ring Road have been advised to use Barapullah elevated road and those heading towards New Delhi from North Delhi to take Geeta Colony flyover-Netaji Subhash Marg-Jawahar Lal Nehru Marg-Minto Road route.
Meanwhile, a large number of police personnel have been deployed around the hotel where the Chinese premier is staying and around the Chinese Embassy. A strict vigil is also being maintained around Majnu Ka Tila, which is home to a large number of Tibetans in exile.
