Four labourers, including a woman, were killed and one injured when part of an under-construction building collapsed in West Delhi’s Hari Nagar on Friday night. The owner of the building is among the two persons arrested and both have been charged with causing death by negligence.

The incident took place around 7-30 p.m.

According to the police, the labourers were working in the basement of the house when one of the walls came down and five labourers were trapped under the debris. The five – Khanju, Nanna Bhai, Maya Devi, Ram Charan and Gowardhan – were taken to the nearby Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Hospital. At the hospital, all but Gowardhan were declared brought dead.

Gowardhan is currently undergoing treatment and is said to be critical.

The building plan for the 200 sq.m plot had been sanctioned by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation in June, said civic body spokesperson Mukesh Yadav.

The police booked the owner Subhash Baweja and contractor Prabhatilal under Sections 304 A, 288, 337 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code. The rescue operations continued for nearly three hours. All the victims hailed from Madhya Pradesh.
