Four policemen were on Monday suspended by the Jodhpur police for hiding information about seizure of unclaimed demonetised currency from a passenger bus here.
SP (Rural) Harendra Mahawar said one head constable and three constables have been suspended for hiding information about the seizure of money and an investigation into the matter has been initiated by the ACP concerned.
A team from the IT department reached the Kherapa police station on Monday for inquiry.
Head constable Urja Ram was on duty with another constable at the Kherapa police station on Bikaner-Jodhpur highway on the night of November 17, he said.
“They intercepted an Ahmedabad-bound private bus and on checking, recovered an unclaimed bag containing the demonetised currency worth Rs.25.35 lakh comprising Rs.1,000 and Rs.500 notes,” said Mr. Mahawar.
Instead of reporting the matter to the higher-ups, they just shared the information with two constables at the police station and let the bus go without carrying out the required formalities, he said.
“Next day, they informed the higher officials about the seizure of Rs.25.35 lakh after the buzz spread and also seized the bus next day, when it was returning from Ahmedabad,” he said.-PTI
