Three women were injured in an explosion that occurred at Ram Madiaya Bustee within the limits of the Adityapur police station in adjoining Seraikela-Kharswan district on Friday, a senior police officer said.

While two of the injured were discharged after primary treatment, one woman, who sustained grievous injuries, was referred to the MGM Hospital here, said Superintendent of Police Indrajeet Mahatha.

The grievously injured victim was out of danger, he said.

Mr. Mahatha said the victims had gone to pick up fire wood near the Kharkhai river when the explosion occurred.

The victims were trying to cut wood with an axe when the explosion took place, he said suspecting a bottle bomb kept hidden underneath sand might have exploded.

The police had detected bottle bombs from the area in the past, the SP said.

Investigation was on to ascertain the exact cause of explosion, Mr. Mahatha said.

A forensic team from Ranchi would visit the spot to investigate the matter, he added.-PTI
