Three persons, including a property dealer, have been arrested for allegedly robbing a buyer in south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar on Monday evening. The three, along with other associates, hatched a plan to rob him in the pretext of implicating him in a false case of exchanging demonetised notes.

The accused have been identified as Vikram Singh Chauhan (44), Naresh Chand (43), and Mukesh Trivedi (46). Victim Rajesh Kumar was shown a property in Panchsheel Vihar by one Ramesh Poonia. Mr. Kumar was told that the property costs ₹1.7 crore and he’ll have to make a down payment of ₹52.5 lakh.

To make the payment to Ramesh, the victim, along with his friends Manish, Arjun and Amit, went to Panchsheel Vihar from where they were taken to an office that belonged to Satish Chauhan, the mastermind of the plan. “At the office, two people were already sitting with discarded ₹500 and ₹1,000 notes on the table. Suddenly, seven-eight men entered the office and started shouting at Mr. Kumar for attempting to exchange the notes. Unaware of the plan, Mr. Kumar got scared,” said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Chinmoy Biswal.

Meet in Saket mall

The men who had entered accused him of indulging in illegal activity and told him to show the money he had brought with him. “Some of them snatched his car keys, took out pistols and told him one of them was a police officer. They took the money from his car and fled. The others forced him and his friends into a car and dropped them near a mall in Saket after which they approached the police,” said Mr. Biswal.

During probe, the police received a tip-off that the accused were going to meet near a mall in Saket to distribute the cash. “A trap was laid and the three were apprehended,” said the officer. When questioned, Vikram disclosed the involvement of other accused including Satish, Ramesh, Dharmendra who are absconding. “Several teams have been formed to find those at large,” said Mr. Biswal.
