27 arrested for rioting

Twenty-seven people were arrested on charges of rioting after a clash broke out between two groups in east Delhi in which the mob opened fire at police injuring a Sub-inspector and six others, police said on Sunday.

The incident took place late on Saturday night when some residents of Block 11 in Kalyan Puri pelted stones on the people of Block 16.

The mob torched three rickshaw carts and tried to set shops on fire. Two cases of rioting were registered and 27 people arrested by police which also recovered swords and illegally made pistols.

The violence was the result of a dispute between an alleged criminal Sarwan and Manjeet, who has 10 criminal cases against him.
