A Delhi court has sentenced a 25-year-old man to life imprisonment, holding him guilty of committing sodomy on a six-year-old boy in Vijay Vihar in Rohini in North-West Delhi.

The court held accused Pankaj, a factory worker, guilty on the basis of the evidence of the boy, of his mother and grandmother besides medical and forensic evidence.

The accused had sexually assaulted the boy by luring him in his room built over a factory where he worked. The factory was adjacent to the boy’s house. On the day of the incident, the boy had gone out to play. When after some time he returned to his home, he complained to his mother that the accused had sexually assaulted him. The victim’s mother immediately called the police and on the basis of her statement the investigating agency lodged a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act, 2012. The accused sought a lenient punishment citing his young age and the family liabilities but the court rejected it.
