Two minor sisters were crushed to death by a cement mixer vehicle while they were playing near it in Dabri on Wednesday morning. The errant driver absconded from the spot.

According to the police, the accident took place around 11-30 a.m. in the Sitapuri area of Dabri. An officer said Sanjana (6) and Tammana (4) were playing outside a park where preparations for a function were under way.

“A cement mixer truck was leaving the park when the accident took place,” said an officer adding that the truck driver did not notice the children and ran them over.

While Tamanna died on the spot, her sister was rushed to a nearby hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

By the time the police reached the spot, a crowd had gathered around the truck and damaged it. The angry public also created a ruckus. Later, the situation was brought under control by a heavy deployment of police personnel. The driver managed to give the crowd a slip and fled.

The victims hailed from Nepal and were living with their parents at a rented accommodation in the area. Their father Shyamu works in a private company as a cleaner.
